Every morning and every evening I offer my heart and soul, my head and my brow, in faith and pure love, to my Guru — bowing down before him a hundred thousand times. For the Guru lifts plain human beings until they shine like angels, and raises the honour of us who are only made of dust.

The purest and the highest are but the dust of his feet; every heavenly being would gladly give itself for him. Though a thousand suns and moons may blaze, without him the whole world stays in darkness. The true Guru is the very light of God — and that is why I have seated him inside my heart. But those who never remember him have thrown away the fruit of their heart and soul for nothing.

Picture a field heavy with fruit, cheap and plentiful. From far off a hungry man sees it, and his heart lifts; he runs to gather what he can. Yet he comes away with nothing in his hands — still empty, still hungry, worn out. Without the true Guru, everything is just like that field: it looks ripe and full, and gives no real grain at all.
