The tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, had the strength to master the mightiest powers that rule the world. He sat upon the eternal throne and gave it a new honour. He revealed the way of holy wonder, and lit up the path of service and remembrance of the All-Powerful. His brave, tiger-hearted soldiers filled every place in every moment; his flag of freedom flew crowned with victory. Nand Lal reads the letters of his name as triumphs — a conqueror of the world, a joiner of earth and sky, a pardon for those who seek shelter, an honour to those who remember God, a breaker of the snare of death, and a true guide on the road of both worlds; and the great drum of his teaching sounds across the nine skies.
People of every world are at his call. Thousands upon thousands praise his court. Great gods and powers — Ishar and Brahma, Rama and Krishna — set the dust of his feet upon their brows, and countless tongues sing his glory. Millions of holy mothers, the very powers that hold up the earth and the sky, stand in his service, and every power bows to his command.

He knows the secrets behind the veil; he is a cloud that rains mercy. He is the accepted and beloved one, joined to God and joining others to Him.

He gives life to the world, an ocean of God's grace. He is God's own beloved, the One whom every seeker seeks. Master of the sword, and the healing of heart and soul. Wearer of the crown, the very shadow of God. Keeper of every treasure, the ending of every sorrow. He rules both worlds, and has no rival in either. God Himself sings his praise, for he holds within him every noble virtue.

The chosen bow at his feet; the holy stand under his command. Those whom God accepts are his admirers; he gives peace to heart and soul. The Eternal One kisses his feet; his drum sounds through both worlds. All three worlds obey him; all four corners bear his seal. The whole world is his; with burning zeal he scatters his foes. His heart is pure and free of all spite; he is truth itself, and the mirror of truth. He keeps only the thought of truth; he is beggar and king in one.

He is the giver of God's own gifts, the granter of wealth and grace. He is more generous than the generous, and kinder than the kind. He blesses even those who bless; he is the wisest of the wise. Ever-living, noble, and blessed with great good fortune. His being is the grace of God, the shining of God's light. Those who hear his name come to see God through his blessing. Those who praise him receive his gifts in full.

Those who write his praise rise to honour by his kindness. Those who see his face grow glad and drunk with his love. Those who kiss the dust of his feet are welcomed by his grace. He can meet any need; he is the friend of the friendless. He is both the one who bows and the One bowed to; he is all grace and giving. Crown of the chiefs, he is the surest way to God. All the holy stand at his command, praising his endless gifts.

The holy Creator waits upon his service. What is Nature before him? — even Nature longs to bow to him. The seven skies are the dust of his feet, and his servants are swift and true. The highest throne lies beneath him; he walks in the boundless. Above every worth, he is the everlasting seat. The world is bright because of him; heart and soul bloom like a garden through him. His glory grows day by day; he is the pride of both the throne and the place.

He is the true Guru of both worlds, the light of every eye. The whole world is under his command; his splendour is the highest of all. Both worlds are his family; all hold fast to the hem of his robe. He is the giver of gifts, the opener of every door. He is full of mercy, and perfect in every virtue. He is the soul in every body, the light in every eye. All are fed at his door; he rains down clouds of blessing.
ਬਿਸਤੋ ਹਫ਼ਤ ਗਦਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਫ਼ਤ ਹਮ ਸ਼ੈਦਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੪ ॥ ਖ਼ਾਕਹੂਬਿ ਸਰਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਖ਼ੱਮਸ ਵਸਫ਼ ਪੈਰਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੫ ॥ ਬਰ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਦਸਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਉਲਵੀ ਪਸਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੬ ॥
bisato hafat gadāi gur gobind siṅgh hafat ham shaidāi gur gobind siṅgh | 154 | khākahūb sarāi gur gobind siṅgh khammas vasafa pairāi gur gobind siṅgh | 155 | bar do ālam dasat gur gobind siṅgh jumalā ulavī pasat gur gobind siṅgh | 156 |
Twenty-seven lands are beggars at his door; seven worlds would give themselves for him. Every sense sings his praise and sweeps the floor of his house. His hand of grace is over both worlds, and before him all the high are humble.
ਲਾਅਲ ਸਗੇ ਗੁਲਾਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾਗ਼ਦਾਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੭ ॥ ਕਮਤਰੀਂ ਜ਼ਿ ਸਗਾਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਰੇਜ਼ਾ-ਚੀਨਿ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੮ ॥ ਸਾਇਲ ਅਜ਼ ਇਨਆਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਖ਼ਾਕਿ ਪਾਕਿ ਅਕਦਾਮਿ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੫੯ ॥ ਬਾਦ ਜਾਨਸ਼ ਫ਼ਿਦਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਫ਼ਰਕਿ ਊ ਬਰ ਪਾਇ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ॥ ੧੬੦ ॥

And Lal? — only a poor dog at the door of Guru Gobind Singh, marked all over with his master's name. Lower than the least of his dogs, he gathers the crumbs from his table. This servant begs for nothing but his gifts, longing only for the dust of his blessed feet. May I give my life for Guru Gobind Singh, and may my head rest forever at his feet.
