The ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, came with a new resolve, the chief of all who guard the truth. He adorned the honoured throne of the Lord of both worlds. Though he held God's own power, he bowed always before God's will. He could test the truest of his followers and lift up those who walk the fair and even path. He was the crown of the chosen. Nand Lal reads the letters of his name as truth itself — a heart that lived in God's will, complete faith, humility from head to foot, the grace of teaching, a fair ruler of both worlds, and a knower of God's deep mysteries.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was a storehouse of the highest virtue, the beauty of every gathering of glory. The rays of truth take their brightness from his holy being, and both worlds are lit by his grace.

God chose him from among His own chosen, for he held God's will to be the loftiest of all ways. God raised him higher than the accepted ones, and made him worthy of honour in both worlds. Everyone reaches for the hem of his robe, and his word of truth shines brighter than the very light of wisdom.
