The third Guru, Guru Amar Das, was a keeper of the truth, a king of the land and a wide ocean of giving. Even death itself served him. The light of truth glowed in him, and closed buds opened into bloom in his joy. Nand Lal reads the letters of his name as gifts — peace to the lost, sweetness to the grieving, the grace of his face, a support to the helpless, shelter to the sinner, and, in the last letter, the very image of God.
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਆਂ ਗਰਾਮੀ ਨਜ਼ਾਦ ਜ਼ਿ ਅਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਲਿ ਹੱਕ ਹਸਤੀਅਸ਼ ਰਾ ਮੁਆਦ ॥ ੬੪ ॥ ਜ਼ਿ ਵਸਫ਼ੋ ਸਨਾਇ ਹਮਾ ਬਰਤਰੀਂ ਬ-ਸਦਰਿ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਮੁਰੱਬਅ ਨਸ਼ੀਂ ॥ ੬੫ ॥

Guru Amar Das was born of a noble line, and God's own grace gave his whole being its purpose. He stands higher than all in praise, seated on the throne of the truth.

The world grows bright with the light of his word; earth and sky have turned into a garden through his fairness. Both worlds are his servants, and his blessings are far more than anyone could ever count.
