The fourth Guru, Guru Ram Das, stands higher than the four orders of angels. Those honoured in God's court are always ready to serve him. Any lost or lowly soul who comes to his door is lifted, by his blessing, to a seat of honour; any sinner who remembers God's Name through him shakes the dust of wrongdoing from his whole being. Nand Lal reads the letters of his name as graces — the life of every body, higher than every other name, a model of kindness from head to foot, a heart always turned to God's Name, and a giver of honour to the helpless in both worlds.

Guru Ram Das, the treasure of the whole world, is the keeper of the realm of faith and purity. He carries both the crown and holy poverty, and he is the king of kings. The tongues of all three worlds cannot describe him; from his words come jewels — the wisdom of the Vedas and the Shastras.
ਕਿ ਹੱਕ ਬਰਗੁਜ਼ੀਦਸ਼ ਜ਼ਿ ਖ਼ਾਸਾਨ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਰ ਅਫ਼ਰਾਖ਼ਤਸ਼ ਹਮ ਜ਼ਿ ਪਾਕਾਨੇ ਖ਼ੇਸ਼ ॥ ੭੨ ॥ ਹਮਾਂ ਸਾਜਿਦਸ਼ ਦਾ ਬਸਿਦਕਿ ਜ਼ਮੀਰ ਚਿਹ ਆਅਲਾ ਚਿਹ ਅਦਨਾ ਚਿਹ ਸ਼ਹ ਚਿਹ ਫ਼ਕੀਰ ॥ ੭੩ ॥
ki hakk baraguzīdasha z khāsān khesha sar afarākhatasha ham z pākāne khesha | 72 | hamān sājidasha dā basidak zamīr chih āalā chih adanā chih shah chih fakīr | 73 |
God chose him from among His closest, and raised him even above His own pure ones. Everyone bows before him with a true and open heart — high or low, king or beggar, all alike.
