The fifth Guru, Guru Arjan, polished bright the flame of the four Gurus before him — the fifth to sit upon Guru Nanak's throne. He held the truth and spread the light of God: a teacher higher than every rank of society, the beloved of God's court. He was one with God, and God with him; our tongue cannot tell his greatness. The great are only the dust of his path, and the angels rest under his care. Nand Lal reads the letters of his name as kindnesses — a weaver of the whole world into one, a friend to the weary, freshness to the faithful, and a shelter to every believer.
ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਜੁਮਲਾ ਜੂਦੋ ਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਲ ਹਕੀਕਤ ਪਜ਼ੋਹਿੰਦਾਇ ਹੱਕ ਜਮਾਲ ॥ ੭੫ ॥ ਵਜੂਦਸ਼ ਹਮਾ ਰਹਿਮਤਿ ਈਜ਼ਦੀ ਸਆਦਤ ਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਇੰਦਇ ਸਰਮਦੀ ॥ ੭੬ ॥

Guru Arjan is giving and praise itself, the seeker of the truth of God's glory. His whole being is the mercy of God, a spring of everlasting joy.
ਮੁਰੀਦਸ਼ ਦੋ ਆਲਮ ਚਿਹ ਬਲ ਸਦ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਹਮਾ ਕਰਮਹਾਇ ਊ ਜੁੱਰਾਆ ਖ਼੍ਵਾਰ ॥ ੭੭ ॥ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਨਜ਼ਮ ਕਾਲਿ ਹੱਕ ਅੰਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਰਾ ਬਦੋ ਨਸਕ ਇਲਇ ਯਕੀਂ-ਪੇਸ਼ਾ ਰਾ ॥ ੭੮ ॥ ਜਲਾਇ ਮਕਾਲਿ ਹੱਕ ਆਮਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ਫ਼ਰੋਗ਼ਿ ਜਮਾਲਿ ਹੱਕ ਆਮਦ ਅਜ਼ੋ ॥ ੭੯ ॥
murīdasha do ālam chih bal sad hazār hamā karamahāi ū jurrāā khvār | 77 | azo nazam kāl hakk andeshā rā bado nasak ilai yakīn-peshā rā | 78 | jalāi makāl hakk āmad azo faroġ jamāl hakk āmad azo | 79 |
Not two worlds only — he has millions of followers, and all of them drink the nectar of his kindness. From him come verses full of God's own thought, and writings that fill the heart with faith. God's word takes its shine from him, and God's beauty its bloom.
