ਕਰਮ ਤੇ ਨਦਰਿ · Karma, Memory, and Grace

The Warehouse and the Door

Everyone has heard the word karma. Few have asked what it means. This book asks. It follows the idea step by step: karma as the doing and what the doing leaves behind, the eight layers of memory we carry, the great warehouse of all that is stored, the portion packed for this life, the choice that is made only now, and the trap hidden in liking and disliking. At every step it listens to what the Gurus say. The map is true, and it is useful. At the end of it the Guru shows a door.

The accounts of Guru Nanak at Sultanpur, of Guru Nanak and Sajjan, and of Bhai Kanhaiya are sakhis of the Sikh tradition, told in our own words. The four names of karma come from the old thinkers of India. The ideas about memory and choosing are shared by wise teachers of many paths, and the last chapter names them with thanks.
